Montoya to leave McLaren/F1 and join NASCAR

by Vinny Carpenter on July 9, 2006

This is big news for NASCAR - Juan Pablo Montoya, my favorite F1 driver is leaving Formula One and McLaren-Mercedes team at the end of the season to join Chip Ganassi in NASCAR. Montoya didn't have a ride in F1 next year as McLaren hadn't renewed his contract. I think this move is going to bring a lot more fans to NASCAR. I for one will now watch NASCAR to cheer him on.

It's the little things - Google rocks

by Vinny Carpenter on July 5, 2006

It's the little things that someone does right that I find interesting and cool. Case in point - Google. A bunch of us were talking about the Worldcup and we wanted to know when France was playing Portugal. So I go to Google as always and type in 'worldcup fifa' to find the FIFA homepage to look at the schedule and much to my delight, Google has answered by question by showing me the score of the last game as well as the time of the next game.

Google Search Results

It's a very simple thing but that information answered my question and I didn't have to go to the FIFA page to try and find the time of the next game. I know Google has been doing this for a while but this instance was an 'aha!' moment for me.

Montoya triumphs @ Silverstone (British GrandPrix)

by Vinny Carpenter on July 10, 2005

Juan Pablo Montoya won his first race for McLaren this year at this year's running of the British Grand prix at Silverstone. I'm glad the race wasn't cancelled with the tragic events that happened earlier in the week in London.

It was great to see some real racing after the disastrous weekend at Indy. Read more from Montoya here. Great weekend for McLaren getting 2 podium positions with Kimi Räikkönen finishing 3rd.

Detriot Pistons are NBA Champions

by Vinny Carpenter on June 15, 2004

How Sweet It Is :) In a shocking turn of events, the underdogs Detroit Pistons shock the world and beat the LA Lakers to win the NBA championship in 5 games. I wish I had watched a few more Detroit games this season as they played a really exciting game. I am so glad that people like Karl Malone, Gary Payton and others that abandoned their teams to get a championship ring will have to try again next year.

The NBA finals get interesting

by Vinny Carpenter on June 13, 2004

Oh wow. The Detroit Pistons stun the LA Lakers and win the 4th game of the 2004 finals to lead the series 3-1. I am big basketball fan, but I really hate the Lakers and am really pulling for the Pistons to win it all. It will be nice to have someone else win for a change, but I'm sure the fix will be in and the NBA will make sure this goes to game 7 where, surprise surprise - the Lakers win in the end.

Schumacher wins again

by Vinny Carpenter on May 31, 2004

Schumacher wins again at the 2004 European Grand Prix at Nuerburgring. Another good Formula 1 race - I just wish Williams and McLaren had a better showing.

David Letterman's team won the Indy 500. I'm a huge Letterman fan and am very happy for him, but I haven't watched CART or Champ Cars or IRL or whatever the hell they are called now. Tony George, the asshole that killed the Indy car racing series had made this whole sport irrelavant. I haven't seen a single CART/IRL race in the past 4 years and will continue to only follow Formula 1.
